The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development will require workers’ compensation providers to submit bills electronically by November 21, 2019. Bills must follow the guidelines published by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) X12 837 National Standard. Billing representatives or any company that has purchased the right to pursue their bill must follow the guidelines.

HCS will open its EDI gateway for testing of State of New Jersey workers’ compensation bills by September 4, 2019. This testing will help ensure that providers and/or their respective submitters, or clearinghouses can successfully transmit 837 institutional or 837 professional transactions with medical reports (attachments) to HCS.

Electronic Bill Submission

Bills must be submitted with medical records. Electronic medical bill submissions must be sent to HCS using Payer ID 43322. Medical records/attachments must be transmitted to HCS via Managed File Transfer (MFT).
